Replacing a canister
Replace a steam canister by controls, kit and refill routine
When replacing an older steam canister, begin with the controls and attachments you actually use. A retained product page can describe a discontinued machine, while an accessory page may show only a replacement part.
Separate a stock message from discontinuation
The current manufacturer page for Steamfast SF-275 shows an out-of-stock product. SF-370 and SF-375 instead carry explicit discontinuation notices. Their guides remain useful for existing owners, but confirm a current complete package when choosing a replacement.
Match the control you want to keep
SF-275 and SF-370 use on-demand triggers with locks, without separate variable-flow knobs. SF-375 puts its flow adjustment on the grip. These differences matter when moving from a small detail brush to a larger permitted floor job.
McCulloch MC1375 offers a body-mounted flow knob and pressure gauge. MC1385 puts adjustment on the working grip. A heating light, pressure gauge and trigger lock perform different jobs; none permits opening a hot, pressurized boiler.
Check the exact supplied tools
A separate part in an accessory catalogue does not establish that it comes in the machine's box. Compare the exact squeegee, floor head, pads and small brushes before ordering. Do not assume matching brand colors prove compatibility with an older nozzle.
A large bristle attachment and cloth pad may be alternate setups. SF-375 explicitly prohibits fitting its large bristle attachment together with either floor pad. Select a suitable attachment for the material and change it only after following the cooling and handling instructions.
Plan reach and refill time separately
A longer hose can reduce repositioning, but does not make a boiler safe to place near water or pull by its hose. Leave a stable body position and a clear outlet route. Compare machine weight separately from the extra water and carried attachments.
These closed-boiler canisters require stopping, unplugging, cooling and safely releasing pressure before refilling. Check the exact model's detailed refill procedure. A longer advertised low-flow steam time does not eliminate that pause, and heating-indicator behavior does not establish safe cap opening.
Use the finder for floor and detail work in a canister, then add the specific flow-control or supplied-tool requirement. Check material permission and the full kit before buying.
