Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can this model cover a hard-floor steam job without claiming a separate SUCTION setting?
Yes for the documented indoor non-carpeted hard-floor Steam route; the exact manual names Auto and Steaming, not a separate SUCTION mode.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the FAQ’s approximate 12–20 minute full-tank steam range meet a 12-minute threshold but not 13?
Tineco’s exact-model US FAQ states 12–20 minutes depending on water/steam flow; thresholds compare that manufacturer claim, not a measured result.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the documented 0.75 L clean-water tank meet a 0.7 L minimum, but not 0.8 L?
The model-specific US FAQ gives approximately 0.75 L for its clean-water tank; the higher threshold is not established.
Explore this need in the finder →The Tineco FLOOR ONE S5 Steam is a corded wet floor washer with an Auto setting and a separate Steaming setting. Its U.S. manual identifies model SW100400US and limits it to indoor, non-carpeted hard floors such as vinyl, tile and sealed wood. Tineco markets it as a wash-and-steam combination, but it is not a canister steamer with detail tools, and its manual does not provide a separate SUCTION mode.
A floor washer, not a boiler-and-hose steamer
The S5 Steam moves a powered roller across a hard floor while drawing soiled liquid into its dirty-water tank. The manual lists separate clean- and dirty-water reservoirs, each about 0.75 L. These are washer tanks, not the capacity of a pressurized boiler. Tineco's model-specific support FAQ says there is no need to vacuum an area first because the Floor One can vacuum and wash at the same time. That is the practical difference from a steam mop that only transfers heat and water through a pad.
Tineco describes the S5 Steam as “wash and steam 2 in 1.” The manual describes two selectable settings, Auto and Steaming; it does not list a third, dedicated SUCTION setting. In other words, it is meant to wash a suitable floor and add steam as part of the floor-cleaning routine, not to give you separate steam and liquid-pickup passes like some newer Tineco washers. Do not assume that a dirty-water tank means a standalone suction-only tool or a simultaneous steam-extraction setting.
Auto and Steaming are the two control choices
Auto is the default on startup. The manual says its iLoop sensor detects how dirty the floor is and adjusts detergent use and suction power. Selecting Steaming changes the operating mode and starts the nozzle's steam-preparation sequence; the display indicates when steam is ready. Tineco's FAQ gives a full-clean-water-tank operating range of roughly 12–20 minutes, depending on water and steam flow. That is a manufacturer statement, not an independently timed result or a promise that every floor gets 20 minutes.
The FAQ permits tap water, cautions against hot water, and says cleaning solution is incompatible with Steam mode. The U.S. manual likewise says to use water below 140°F/60°C. Keep solution out of the tank when steaming, and do not treat the Auto-mode detergent language as permission to use any household cleaner. The manual's icon-based display, mode button and warm-up sequence matter more than marketing terms such as “smart” or “deep clean.”
The power cord changes the routine
This is a corded 120 V appliance, rated at 12 A and 1,440 W in the U.S. manual. Tineco's FAQ describes the cord as around 26 feet (8 m). That gives it sustained access to household power without a battery recharge cycle, but the cord still has to reach the area without running beneath the powered brush or creating a trip path. The FAQ calls the machine about 13 lb; that is not a measured, full-tank carrying weight, so use the number as a rough manufacturer reference rather than a stair-lifting guarantee.
Its body also has a specific movement limit: the manual warns not to recline it beyond 142° because water could leak. It is not the same as a 180-degree lay-flat “Stretch” model for reaching beneath low furniture. The storage tray keeps it upright after use. If you need cordless room-to-room movement, compare the FLOOR ONE S7 Steam or S7 Stretch Steam, but their app controls, mode choices and separate manuals differ.
Keep the surface and cleanup limits in view
The manual says to use the S5 Steam only indoors on non-carpeted hard floors, with vinyl, tile and sealed wood as examples. That is not universal approval for every wood coating, laminate, grout, seam or installed floor. Check the floor maker's instructions about heat and moisture first. The S5 Steam has no documented upholstery, curtain, shower-glass or above-floor attachment arrangement, and the hard-floor brush is not a carpet-cleaning tool.
Maintenance is part of the ownership cost in time. Tineco instructs users to empty the dirty-water tank after use and clean and fully dry the tank, dry filter, roller and roller cover. Its self-clean cycle uses the storage tray and needs the clean-water tank above 40%; the dirty-water tank still needs to be emptied afterward. Store the unit upright and dry. This routine matters for odor prevention and avoiding debris buildup, not just keeping the appliance presentable.
Who should choose it?
Consider the S5 Steam if you want a corded floor washer for permitted hard floors, value Tineco's advertised wash-and-steam routine, and accept a roughly 0.75 L clean-water tank, cord management and hands-on cleanup. It is a poor fit for carpet, upholstery, detailed above-floor steaming, hose-reach work or a separate SUCTION control. A canister steamer is more versatile for tools and detail work; a simple steam mop is lighter in routine if liquid recovery is unnecessary.
Check the identity at checkout. Tineco's U.S. product page and S5-series card still identify FLOOR ONE S5 Steam, and the linked English manual lists SW100400US. But the product page's own exact-name U.S. store link redirects to a distinct S6 Stretch Steam page; the matching S5 product-data endpoint returns 404. No current S5 store SKU or box variant is established by that route. Search the exact FLOOR ONE S5 Steam name and verify the model rather than treating an S6, standard S5 or iFloor 5 listing as equivalent.
Key details at a glance
| Machine arrangement | Wet dry steam washer |
|---|---|
| Documented power-cord length | 26 ft |
| Separate variable-flow control | No |
| Flow-adjustment location | Not user selectable in manual |
| Pressure gauge | No |
| Lockable steam output | No |
| Controls and operation | The US manual names Auto and Steaming; Steaming starts after its preparation indicator reaches 100. Manufacturer FAQ says Floor One can vacuum and wash simultaneously, and the US S5-series page calls S5 Steam “Wash & steam 2 in 1.” This is the manufacturer-described routine, not an independent simultaneous steam/extraction test. Do not infer a separate SUCTION control. |
| Supplied tools and setups | The manual identifies a powered brush roller, storage tray, cleaning tool, dry filter and holder. It does not document a canister hose, glass squeegee, carpet glider, upholstery tool or above-floor steamer setup. |
| Water and care | Use tap water below 140°F/60°C, not hot water; the FAQ says steam is incompatible with cleaning solution. Empty the recovered-water tank and clean/dry the tank, dry filter, roller and cover after use. For self-cleaning, place the unit on its tray with dirty tank emptied, clean tank at least 40% full, and plug in the appliance. Store upright; do not recline past 142°. |
