Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the original SF-142 manual list a carpet glider in the package?
Yes. Its exact accessory list includes a carpet glider; the guide says the head rests in it rather than fastening to it. It is a separate pass and does not extract soil or water.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the SF-142 pole be adjusted in height?
The exact parts list and assembly instructions show a telescoping pole operated by an Extension Lock. This is distinct from the SF-141 Tilt Lock; the discontinued unit still requires exact model-label confirmation.
Explore this need in the finder →Do the boiler and cord meet a 10-ounce and 18-foot minimum?
The manual specifies 10 ounces maximum and 18.7 feet of cord. Higher thresholds are not met; refill only after following the exact cool-down and unplugging procedure.
Explore this need in the finder →The Steamfast SF-142 is a discontinued upright mop with a small capped boiler, telescoping pole, two microfiber pads, and a carpet glider listed in its original kit. That supplied glider is the main practical difference from the SF-140 and SF-141: the SF-142 can be set up for a separate, cautious carpet or rug pass without treating an optional accessory as included. Steamfast marks it discontinued, so this is an existing-owner reference.
Two distinct heads of work, not one universal pass
On hard floors, the microfiber pad attaches to the mop head and catches the moisture and loosened dirt. For a soft surface, the guide says to place the pad on the mop head and fit the carpet glider over that assembly. Those are separate setups. The glider helps the head move across carpet; it does not extract soil, shampoo a room, or suction liquid back into a recovery tank. Steamfast says to check the carpet maker's instructions and test an inconspicuous area before using heat and moisture.
The supplied tools do not turn the SF-142 into a detail cleaner. Its exact guide does not show a detachable handheld body, small brushes, fabric nozzle, or glass squeegee. If grout, fixtures, and windows are your essential jobs, compare a canister such as the McCulloch MC1275 instead. A glider on this mop is a soft-surface accessory, not a general attachment rail.
One 10-ounce fill and a measured cool-down
The manual lists a 10-ounce (300 ml) maximum boiler fill, about three minutes to heat, about 12 minutes of continuous steam, 18.7 feet of cord, 3.9 pounds of unit weight, and assembled dimensions of 11.5 by 7.1 by 49.6 inches. Heat and run time are manufacturer approximations, not test measurements. “Unit weight” is not a complete water-filled carry figure, so the published number should not be used as a strict full-setup handling guarantee.
The telescoping pole is adjustable and collapses for storage. A red power lamp and green heating lamp show the on and heat states. Steamfast gives no selectable steam-level menu or separate variable-flow control, so the glider does not make the output adjustable. The small reservoir is more suited to a short sequence of rooms with a pause for filling than an extended canister session.
The glider is included, but flooring permission still matters
The product guide's included-features list names the carpet glider alongside the two microfiber pads, measuring cup, and resting pad. Its accessory page separately lists the same part number for replacement. That wording supports the original SF-142 package; it does not establish that a used listing has retained the accessory or that a seller's mixed box is complete.
For floors, Steamfast lists sealed hardwood, stained concrete, sealed laminate, linoleum, ceramic, granite, marble, slate, and vinyl. It warns not to use steam on unsealed hardwood or unglazed ceramic, to keep the mop moving over sealed wood, and to avoid leaving it on waxed finishes. For rugs, the manual calls for the carpet glider and a discreet test. If a surface manufacturer prohibits steam, the glider cannot override that instruction.
Water, scale, and safe storage
The boiler is filled by removing a cap. The guide says to switch off, unplug, wait at least five minutes when refilling, and make sure the boiler is empty to avoid overfilling. It recommends distilled or demineralized water and regular scale maintenance. The manual permits only water in the boiler; it does not document a detergent tank or an in-use top-up. For storage, turn the machine off, unplug, remove damp parts, wait at least 30 minutes for full cooling, empty the boiler, and store it dry. A used mop's condition, pad wear, scale buildup, and missing glider matter as much as its original specifications.
The SF-142 is most useful as an owner reference when both a padded floor route and a carefully permitted carpet-glider route are part of the original kit. It is not a current buying recommendation, and the guide's one-year warranty term for the original purchaser does not establish coverage today. Compare the SF-140 if floor-only is sufficient, the SF-145 Clean Mist for separate hard-floor solution spray and front lights, or the removable-tank SF-147 if easier water access matters more than supplied carpet gliding.

| Controls and operation | Compared with SF-140/SF-141, the exact SF-142 kit adds a carpet glider and retains a telescoping Extension Lock. It remains a padded mop, not an extractor. The manual documents a single on/off steam routine, not a separate variable-flow dial. |
| Supplied tools and setups | Compared with SF-140/SF-141, the exact SF-142 kit adds a carpet glider and retains a telescoping Extension Lock. It remains a padded mop, not an extractor. Exact included items are determined from the manual list, not from the gallery image; secondhand bundles may be incomplete. |
| Water and care | Consult the flooring maker first, test discreetly, keep the head moving, use the supplied resting pad during pauses, and avoid the manual’s warned-against surfaces such as unsealed hardwood or unglazed ceramic. The guide calls for the unit to be shut off and unplugged before filling; follow the model-specific cool-down, draining and mineral-removal steps. Steam does not recover liquid soil. |
| Exact configuration notes | Steamfast explicitly marks the exact SF-142 product as discontinued/no longer available. This is an owner/model-identification assessment only; it is excluded from current purchase matching. Any historical warranty term is not evidence of present used-unit coverage. |
