Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you want separate floor and detail setups plus a dedicated garment-steaming attachment?
The exact FX10 package includes the detachable hand unit, floor tools and its own garment-steamer head and sock. The distinct FX08 package does not include that garment attachment.
Explore this need in the finder →Would a glass squeegee and small pivoting pad head be useful alongside the garment tool?
The exact U.S. kit lists both the window squeegee and small pivoting mop head; each needs its own attachment change and the maker's surface-specific care instructions.
Explore this need in the finder →Does a 17-ounce, tap-water-compatible tank with two discrete flow settings suit your routine?
The shared manual confirms the 17-ounce reservoir, clean tap water and high/low buttons; distilled water is recommended for hard-water areas. It does not support in-use top-ups.
Explore this need in the finder →The BLACK+DECKER BHSM15FX10 is the more complete package in the BHSM15 detachable steam-mop family. It shares the floor head, small pivoting pad head, hand unit and high/low controls with the BHSM15FX08, but adds a dedicated garment steamer and sock plus on-pole and wall storage. Those additions matter only if you will use the textile tool and have a suitable place to mount the storage; they do not change this into a carpet washer or a steam vacuum.
Floor and detail work are still separate tool changes
The handheld steam body can sit on the floor extension for a cloth-covered floor pass, or detach for the small pivoting pad head and detail attachments. BLACK+DECKER’s exact U.S. page and North American manual list sealed indoor flooring; the manual names sealed hardwood, sealed laminate, linoleum, vinyl, ceramic tile, stone and marble. Check the flooring maker’s instructions before using steam, remove grit first and keep the head moving. The small pivoting pad is a separate option for compatible sealed counters and wall sections. The brushes and squeegee are also separate arrangements; they are not all used together.
For fabric, the model-level difference is specific: the FX10 includes the garment-steamer attachment and sock, which the shared manual identifies as available only with this suffix. Fit the sock to the garment tool and follow the manual’s sequence. Use it only on clothing or upholstery whose care label permits steam, start with a hidden-area test and keep the hot surface moving. This attachment can help refresh a compatible fabric, but it is not a pressing plate, a dry cleaner or a stain-extraction system. If the garment head is unnecessary, the FX08 retains the floor and small-detail tools without the FX10-only garment and storage parts.
Why the extra storage package is a real tradeoff
The exact FX10 page lists the floor extension and pad, a small pivoting head and pad, adapter, detail brush, metal-grate brush, grout brush, window squeegee, garment steamer and sock, accessory bag, on-pole accessory storage and a wall-mount storage set. The wall assembly needs an appropriate fixing method for the wall; the manual asks the owner to choose mounting hardware suitable for the wall type and load. Measure the installation area before treating the included organizer as a space-saving benefit. It is useful for keeping many pieces accessible, but it is another object to fit into the room and install.
Two output levels, not an unlimited dial
The North American manual documents high and low steam buttons on the hand-held unit. The chart assigns low flow to the squeegee and garment attachment, and higher flow to several brushes; this is more informative than assuming all accessories need maximum steam. Heater warmup is about 30 seconds, but a new fill or a system that ran dry can take up to 45 seconds before steam is produced. The 17-fluid-ounce (0.5-liter) tank is enough for a bounded session, not a manufacturer runtime guarantee. If your hard need is a long uninterrupted clean, compare that modest reservoir with a larger canister instead.
Fill with clean tap water and do not add detergent or fragrance. Distilled water is recommended in hard-water areas. The manual says to switch off and allow the hand unit to cool before filling; it does not support adding water during an active pass. It also directs the owner to unplug before cleaning or maintenance and to allow the unit and accessories to cool before removing them. This sequence makes tool changes predictable, but less convenient than a cold refillable tank with a separate hand wand.
Measurements and package identity
The FX10 page lists a 12.1-pound weight and dimensions of 5.5 by 34.1 by 14.3 inches, but does not explain whether those figures describe a packaged set or a particular machine assembly. The FX08 page lists different numbers despite the shared steam unit. I therefore do not use these values as a confirmed carrying-weight cap or a shelf-clearance plan. Match the suffix on the actual offer: the manufacturer’s manual confirms the related models share an operating core, but only the FX10 package establishes the dedicated garment steamer and wall/pole organizers. Exact seller inventory and current carton completeness still need checking.
Who should consider BHSM15FX10?
Choose it for a household that will actually alternate between sealed floor mopping, small detail work and a separate fabric routine, and that values a tool for each setup plus organized storage. The FX08 is a more focused alternative when you do not need the garment steamer or mount; the HSM13E1 is the simpler floor-only alternative. If carpet deep cleaning, wallpaper removal, suction, dirty-water recovery, a continuous steam dial or in-use refilling is essential, look for a different configuration. In the questionnaire, the FX10 can satisfy the floor/detail/fabric combination when you select its supplied garment nozzle; its apparel suitability still depends on the care label and a cautious test.

| Controls and operation | The manufacturer describes high and low steam flow. The North American manual says the controls are buttons on the hand-held unit; it is discrete high/low selection, not a continuous dial. A new fill or a system run dry can require up to 45 seconds before steam appears even though heater warmup is about 30 seconds. |
| Supplied tools and setups | The exact FX10 U.S. page lists the multipurpose unit, floor extension/pad, small pivoting head/pad, adapter, small detail brush, metal-grate brush, grout brush, window squeegee, garment steamer, accessory bag, on-pole storage and wall-mount storage. The North American manual explicitly marks the garment attachment/sock and both storage systems as available only with BHSM15FX10; those functions should not be transferred to BHSM15FX08. |
