Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the basic Omni’s handheld details be treated as a current buying match?
The 4171 page documents a handheld detail cleaner, but the 2026 recall names the exact model. It is retained for existing-owner identification and excluded from purchase matching.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the plain 4171 page confirm the OmniReach glass squeegee?
No. The exact 4171 Omni page lists a different tool set; the 4171L OmniReach is separately identified and is not interchangeable. Both exact models are recall-affected.
Explore this need in the finder →Is 6.6 ounces or 10 ounces the confirmed usable tank capacity?
The technical listing states 6.6 oz, while the shared manual gives a 300 mL/10 oz maximum fill. The figures are not reconciled, so the product cannot satisfy a numeric tank minimum.
Explore this need in the finder →The Steam Shot Omni 4171 is BISSELL’s handheld detail version in the 4171 manual family. The exact model is named in the April 2026 attachment recall, so this review is for identification and owner context only. It is excluded from shopping matches; the original gray attachments should not be used while the recall remedy is pending.
Recall status comes before tool comparisons
The CPSC notice names model 4171, and BISSELL’s recall page gives the owner instructions. The reported issue is with certain attachments that can detach and expose a user to hot water or steam. BISSELL says to stop using the affected gray accessories, dispose of them as directed and request a free replacement attachment kit. Its instructions say the unit, measuring cup and tank cap are not affected. Once a replacement kit is received, read the new instructions before installing or using those parts. Do not interpret this assessment, the old manual, a cached product card or the presence of a machine body in a photo as permission to use the original recalled tools or to buy this configuration.
There are two BISSELL Steam Shot recalls to keep separate. The 2024 Steam Shot notice names 39N7 and 2994 model series; the 2026 attachment notice names 4155- and 4171-family IDs. Match the complete label, not a color or family name. These notices do not establish recall status for unrelated BISSELL floor machines.
What differentiates the 4171 Omni
The exact U.S. product page names “Steam Shot Omni” and model 4171. It lists a corded 1,000-watt unit, a 16-foot power cord and a 4-pound product weight. That weight is not a measured filled carry weight. The page says the improved model indicates pressure and steam readiness and includes color-coded scrub brushes. It describes seven included tools, while its detailed specialty-tools list names a measuring cup, flat scraper, jet nozzle and angle concentrator; that wording is less complete than a carton inventory. The 4171 Series guide itself says contents differ by model. For an old owner package, check its full label and original box records rather than borrowing the 4171L/OmniReach tool list.
The separate 4171L page calls that model “OmniReach,” describes an extension hose and lists ten tools, including a glass squeegee. The plain 4171 page does not document that hose or squeegee. The two share a family manual but are not interchangeable package records. Neither page establishes a hose length. A pressure/readiness indicator is also not a gauge giving a pressure number or an adjustable steam-flow control.
Small reservoir, deliberate refill procedure
The 4171 technical specification lists a 6.6-ounce tank. The shared guide gives a maximum 300-milliliter/10-ounce fill, and the exact page’s own product materials do not reconcile those numbers as a nominal usable capacity. This review therefore does not enter a tank amount into the matcher or infer a run time. The instructions recommend distilled water and prohibit chemicals. To refill, unplug, wait five minutes, release the remaining pressure and confirm the safety plunger has dropped before opening the cap. It is not a fill-while-hot system.
For an existing owner, the guide explains a handheld boiler with a steam nozzle and optional, securely attached detail tools. The exact manual calls for a grounded household outlet and warns against use on porous, painted, vinyl-covered or steam-sensitive materials and near electrical components. Surface makers may impose additional restrictions. Do not use a steam claim as permission for a fragile finish, food-contact surface or material whose care label disallows heat and moisture.
How to compare without turning the page into a buying pitch
The 4171 Omni is the compact reference between the basic 4155 and the more tool-rich 4171L, but the active recall overrides ordinary accessory-fit matching. If you already own one, identify the model on its rating label, follow the current BISSELL remedy and use replacement accessories only as their enclosed directions specify. If you are shopping, do not choose among recalled models on wattage, listed tool count or a price shown by a stale store page. Compare other exact models’ current support and safety status independently; the reviewed McCulloch MC1230 is a separate handheld reference with its own source trail, not a substitute for the recall process.
