BISSELL PowerFresh Vac & Steam vs CrossWave HydroSteam

BISSELL’s PowerFresh Vac & Steam 2747A and CrossWave HydroSteam Plus 3518 both combine vacuuming and steam-related floor care, but their debris paths differ. One is a dry-debris vacuum paired with a steam mop; the other is a solution-fed wet/dry floor washer with a separate dirty-water tank. A conventional pad steam mop such as the PowerFresh 1940A is a third, simpler arrangement. Choose by the mess you need to collect and the floor instructions you can follow.

Dry debris, wet soil, or pad-only mopping?

The exact 2747A page describes three choices—vacuum, steam, or both—and says dry debris stays dry in its dry dirt tank while the unit steam-mops. That is useful if you want crumbs or dry grit collected during a floor pass. It is not the same as suctioning dirty water from a wash solution. If a spill, tracked-in wet soil, or solution must be recovered into a separate tank, the 2747A does not establish that capability.

The exact 3518 bundle page describes a wet/dry cleaner that vacuums, mops and steams together. Its 3515/3518 manual clarifies the routine: use the SteamWash, Hard Floor or Area Rug mode; add only a compatible BISSELL formula to warm tap water; and release the trigger before making passes to suction up excess water. Clean and dirty tanks separate the fresh solution from recovered soil. That recovery route is the meaningful difference from 2747A—not a promise that every cleaning mode dispenses steam.

The PowerFresh 1940A is a more straightforward upright pad mop. Its exact page and series guide support floor mopping with selected steam levels and a carpet refresher glider; they do not describe a vacuum motor or dirty-water recovery. It may be the simpler fit for an approved floor and a pad-based routine, provided the floor maker allows steam. The glider is for refreshing compatible carpet or rugs, not extracting soil.

Controls and upkeep change the decision

The 2747A lists a 25-foot cord, 11-inch cleaning path, 12.8-ounce clean tank and 10.1-pound unit weight. Its selectable functions are vacuum, steam and both; do not treat these as three steam intensities. Its product page says to use only demineralized water and not to add formula or vinegar. The exact model guide was not established from the support path checked, so no family manual details or kit extras are transferred to it here.

The 3518 also lists a 25-foot cord, with a 28-ounce clean tank, 17-ounce dirty tank and 12.5-pound unit weight. Formula and wet-recovery components mean more cleanup: BISSELL directs owners to empty and rinse the dirty tank, clean the filter and strainer, use the clean-out cycle after each session, and let washable parts dry for 24 hours. Its 3518 bundle page lists bonus formulas and brush rolls, but the manual warns that accessories may vary; verify the seller’s exact package rather than using another HydroSteam bundle’s box contents.

The 1940A has a smaller stated 16-ounce clean tank and 23-foot cord. The shared 1940-series guide recommends distilled water, whereas the 2747A page explicitly says demineralized water only. Those instructions should not be collapsed into one generic BISSELL rule: follow the exact model’s directions. None of these published capacities is a measured runtime or room-coverage test.

Surface permission comes first

All three are steam appliances, so check the flooring maker’s written care advice for the exact finish. “Sealed” alone does not guarantee that heat and moisture are allowed, especially on wood, laminate, resilient floors or coated finishes. The 3518 guide specifically asks owners to check an area-rug tag and test an inconspicuous spot, and warns against silk or delicate rugs. Do not infer that a carpet glider, area-rug mode or dry vacuum path makes a surface steam-safe.

In short: favor 2747A when dry crumbs and steam-mopping in one pass matter but wet liquid recovery does not; favor 3518 when you need a solution-fed washer that captures dirty liquid and accept its cleanup routine; consider 1940A when a pad mop is sufficient and its exact floor instructions suit your surface. If you need detail tools, upholstery cleaning, variable steam control or cordless operation, compare other formats rather than stretching these floor machines beyond their documented arrangements.
