Water and refilling
Continuous output and safe boiler refills
A closed steam boiler needs a cooling pause before refilling. “Continuous steam” usually describes the output control, so check the refill instructions separately before planning a long cleaning session.
What the trigger lock actually does
On the McCulloch MC1275, MC1375 and MC1385, the trigger or button starts steam and its lock can keep that control engaged. It does not create an unpressurized filling reservoir. The water remains inside a heated boiler closed by a pressure-sensitive cap.
A larger reservoir may reduce how often you need a refill, but its advertised maximum steam time is not a promise for your flow setting and task. Wiping, changing tools and moving the body also take time. Select nominal tank capacity for the water allowance, not as a calculation of guaranteed cleaning minutes.
Follow the full safe-opening procedure
The current common McCulloch safety instructions require switching off, unplugging, releasing all residual pressure through the nozzle in a safe direction, and allowing complete cooling before opening. A cap that spins without engaging is a reason to wait, never to force or defeat the mechanism. Stop if steam escapes during attempted removal.
MC1375 and MC1385 also have a pressure gauge. Their current guides show more than one gauge design and tell owners how to recognize the appropriate safe-removal zone. That indication supplements the cooling and pressure-release instructions; it is not permission to skip them. Use the guide matching the actual appliance.
Do not carry one brand's water rule to another
The current McCulloch safety leaflet requires distilled water, prohibits added chemicals and is stricter than the use-and-care guide's recommendation about reducing minerals. Follow that current restriction. Do not interpret a separate, unplugged maintenance procedure as permission to steam a cleaning mixture through the nozzle.
After cooling, drain remaining water as instructed to avoid overfilling at the next session. Store the appliance dry and let washed pads and wet tools dry separately. Do not turn a short task into a hurried refill simply to avoid putting the machine away properly.
When a different filling system matters
If stopping for complete cooling would defeat your cleaning routine, require refilling during use in the finder. It should be supported by the exact water-system instructions. A removable tank alone, a lockable trigger or a large boiler does not establish that permission.
